My class contains 2nd and 3rd grade students in a Life Skills Program. We are a self-contained program in the general education building. The whole program contains grades K to 5th grade. All activities will be shared with the students within the whole program.
Many of my students are very limited movement with his/her hands. We are working with the students on being able to grab and release items, put items into a box instead of dropping them, etc. We are also working on counting, color and shape identification. My students currently require full support (hand over hand) to complete activities such as these. With a lot of practice, these skills will become easier for my students. Once these skills are worked on, the students would be able to generalize these skills across settings (example--undoing snaps or buttons to use the bathroom independently, put an item into a box instead of dropping materials on the floor, etc.).
A number of my students require a 1:1 assistant to help them throughout the day. A long term goal for all my students is to grow his/her independence and take ownership! It is awesome to watch the students grow and see that "light bulb" come on when a new skills is acquired!
All of the items could be used could be used year after year to help my students! Thank you for your help! It is greatly appreciated!
