My students live in a rural community in the beautiful Utah Desert. We have a diverse population. I would like to get books that my students can relate to and see in themselves. I believe they need more books with diverse characters. I believe with diverse books, they will be able to relate more and become more interested. I would also like to get books to help with social-emotional skills. This year, especially we are seeing lots of students who need extra love and compassion! They also need skills to build character.
The books that I receive will be placed into my classroom library for students to read during center time or if they finish their work early. I want my kindergarten students to enjoy reading! Having different ethnicities and cultures will help them to feel welcome and safe. The best way for kids to get better at reading is to read about things that interest them!
