I am a first year teacher looking to add math and science materials to my classroom. It is beneficial to have a variety of manipulatives to play, learn and discover new concepts. Students learn better by doing, and concrete models will give them the engagement they need to explore and learn. When students use manipulatives, they build confidence in themselves by testing and confirming their reasoning which sets them up for long term success. Visuals in the classroom will assist in the learning of all students by helping them grasp or clarify questions they may have. They help students to understand the process and message that is being conveyed, and it allows them to stimulate their thinking and creativity. Visuals and manipulatives help to connect all students in the classroom who have different learning styles. This project would fund items such as: clocks and games for telling time, thermometers to learn measuring, balance scale, fraction manipulatives and visuals, fraction games, multiplication flash cards multiplication games, area and perimeter games, counters, 12 sided dice, magnets, experiments so students can investigate magnetic fields and forces, an ant farm ecosystem, visuals of life cycle stages of animals and plants etc. These items would boost our classroom experience by providing more interest and adding another level of fun to learning.
