The experience of using a high quality color pencil doesn't happen for most of my students because they are cost prohibited. Some students aren't able to purchase even the basic Crayola color pencils. The excitement of drawing, shading and creating realistic colored images should be for everyone to enjoy. This opportunity to provide Prismacolors would build higher technical skills to layer and blend more colors. I am always seeking the "wow" moments when students practice and discover through the process of creating. Prismacolor color pencils could open a whole new world.
The impact on student learning from the pandemic means we are reteaching more basic skills. The lack of student engagement means we need to reflect on our curriculum and engage more opportunities to close the gap. When students see their technical skills develop, it opens avenues to engage them in more problem-solving and allows their personal voice to shine in their artwork. The artistic journey is important to all levels, but I want my high school students to experience as much as possible while they are in my classroom.
