These sewing machines will not only give the students the opportunity to learn an important life skill that can save them money and give them the opportunity to make money in the future, but it will also allow them to bring their creative ideas into the physical world. Showing them that anything you put time, energy, and effort into can become a tangible reality.
They will learn how to safely and properly operate a sewing machine and create garments and projects not only for themselves but to help support the community. One of the projects we will be working on is creating face masks for students in the school who may not have immediate access to them. We will also be creating garments to put on a fashion show (in person or virtual). Hands-on projects have helped the students stay engaged and have a positive outlet during these difficult times as COVID-19 has drastically altered education and our everyday lives.
