My students have been completely virtual for the last year and a half. The transition back to in-person learning has been a bit challenging. For the last year and a half, students have been able to complete their school work from the comforts of their own homes. Now that we are back in school, it's been very challenging for my students to sit in a traditional desk chair all day. Because of this, we have been seeing a lot of slouching, leaning back, getting up frequently, and sitting in other inappropriate ways. All of this results in a lack of attention and engagement. Yoga ball chairs relieve this problem.
We know that yoga balls support posture, core strength and circulation. Those reasons alone are enough to consider yoga ball chairs for a classroom. More importantly though, they support concentration, attention, and the needs of students with learning differences. With yoga ball chairs, my students will be motivated to remain at their seats. Also, the inability to lean back or slouch will help improve their attention and engagement.
