More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education.
My students (in years past and present) have shown me how resilient and hardworking they are. They have also affirmed my belief that learning looks different for everyone. In my classroom, I try to make a space where as a teacher I can accommodate their learning and make them feel safe and focused- however that looks. I was lucky enough to be gifted two wobbly stools (stools that move freely) from a teacher who didn't want them and they've lived in my classroom for the past two years.
Since these stools promote natural movement, while being safe, students who I work with (at age 7-8) can move while they work or while they listen. I know as an adult I need movement at times to focus, and the students are no different, which have made my two wobbly stools quick favorites. However, I'd love to provide more students options to learn with flexibility and comfort if I have the possibility to do so.
As mentioned many times, these students have already been wonderful and warm presences and I know my future classrooms will benefit from these tools as well. I so appreciate even a consideration of my project!
