Students have been taught to use flash cards as a means of building fact mastery and in turn building their number sense. Flash cards work great for some kids, but many just don't learn that way. They need something new. Something more engaging. Something fun! That's where the 24 Game comes in to play. The game builds number sense skills and fact mastery as students work to use addition, subtraction, multiplication, and/or division to make the number 24 using the digits on the card. I had one old set of 24 Game cards in my cupboard that I pulled out recently to challenge some of my high flyer students that needed a bit of a challenge. Before I knew it, even the students who have struggled with facts all year were coming up with unique solutions to the cards. In their minds, they were just having fun competing against their friends. They weren't even realizing that with every solution, their number sense was growing. I want that fun and motivation to continue for all students.
