Children often don't know how to treat people who look different from themselves. They don't know whether to look at them or to look away. As they read Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus, they will learn how an adopted child with no arms feels when people look at her differently and how she expects to be treated.
Her positive outlook in life and having a supportive family help her handle the stress of attending a new school all along being different from everyone else. Aven will teach all of us how to gracefully handle life even when people see you as different. Having no arms doesn't make you different, it makes you exceptionally talented.
