We live in a stressful world, and our nation’s children are coping with new emotional realities we can’t ignore. Gifting these special books to my students will help them to learn more deeply and grow their brains. According to Martha Burns, Ph.D., "The reading brain can be likened to the real-time collaborative effort of a symphony orchestra, with various parts of the brain working together, like sections of instruments, to maximize our ability to decode the written text in front of us". As part of the project, after reading and listening to these chapter books, my students will be encouraged to discuss story elements in a reading response activity. As such, they will develop their reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing, and listening and speaking skills in Spanish.
