While teaching virtual last year, I signed up for the free trial of IXL to access practice activities to supplement my on-line lessons. The program included reading and math with skill levels from Pre-K- grade 12. I had a student working on early multiplication skills. After direct-instruction, I was able to assign that student practice on a targeted skill -multiplying by 0-1. The program is interactive so my students were never bored. After a teacher-directed lesson, I can assign students individual IXL targeted skill activities to reinforce the skill taught. Students can work at their own pace while I instruct other students with their daily lessons.
My goal is to help my kiddos retain information through independent practice that's presented in a fun, interactive platform. My students are learning to complete pre-vocational activities: following written directions, making changes, using a diagram to put together tubing, sorting mail - all require reading and math. I plan to use the program as a bridge to help them grow from where they are.
