I work in a school system where students have a choice of attending virtually or in-person. Therefore, during my weekly SEL lessons with 11 classes ranging from Pre-K-2nd grade some of the students are learning virtually and some are in the school building. Most of my students have difficulty understanding their emotions and how to express their emotions appropriately. Based on my research this series of books help children understand their emotions, how to control and/or change them. The books are written in a kid friendly manner and the children love the bright colors.
My goal as a School Social Worker is to help students in the following areas: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision making. I would like to have the educators guide to ensure I'm using the books effectively. I would love to begin teaching with the A Little SPOT of Emotions box set.
As a clinician, I believe its so important for children to understand their numerous emotions, how they affect them and how to manage their feelings well. I believe the plush toys set would enhance the teachings from the books. Children would learn to match facial expressions with each feeling.
Next, I would focus on teaching the children from the A Little SPOT of Life Skills box set. Children need to learn basic life skills to enable them to solve problems they encounter, work well with others, develop strong communication skills and to become resilient. Lastly I would teach lessons from the A Little SPOT Takes Action box set. In order for a child to be successful and to have a healthy self-esteem they will need to learn and understand the various attributes taught in the A Little SPOT Takes Action box set.
