These stories will be used as springboards for class discussions and projects on identity and diversity. Through these books and discussions, students will discover that we, and our families, are different in many ways. This will lead to a deeper understanding of each other and increased empathy and compassion within our community and beyond! For example, I may read Stella Brings the Family to the class, which would be followed by a class discussion about what makes a family (Love), and ways in which families are diverse. Students may then paint or draw portraits of their own families.
