Many second graders this year have one of the biggest challenges of school: learning how to learn TOGETHER. My students lost half of their kindergarten year to school closures and learning remotely due to Covid. Then their first grade year was spent with a mixture of remote learning, hybrid learning, and a small amount of classroom time that was spent in desks 6 feet apart. This year will be the first year in their lives that these children have been in a classroom learning together as a whole class. We are learning as a classroom community about the fundamentals socially and academically. My goal for these students is that they discover a love for learning this year and walk away with the skills to learn as a class. To support one another as they work toward the same goal!
