In a typical year my students have ample opportunity to grow their fine motor skills to improve their pencil grip, letter formation, and ability to write fluently by using Play Doh, lacing cards, blocks and Legos among many other things.
Because of the demographics of the families I serve, parents may not be able to provide these necessary resources for our student to develop strong fine motor skills. It is my hope to gift each student with their own personal set of tools to use to develop the fine motor skills a first grader needs to become a proficient learner.
I'd love to be able to purchase class sets of Magna Tiles, Legos, Play Doh, Lacing Cards, and Perler Beads.
These materials will be used through various parts of the school day to help students with fine motor skills as well as language arts and math. In addition to using them as early finisher activities, I plan to use them in reading and math centers. Ultimately, I want my students to be successful in holding a pencil, forming letters and numbers, and hand-eye coordination.
