When we were able to finally not have to social distance last year, I began working in some board games into the lessons. The students response to this was amazing! Immediately they wanted to know when they were going to play again. It was awesome to see their positive reaction to this. I have been blessed with being in charge of our board game club at our high school this coming year. The club will meet after school to give the students a safe place to go, but I will also be incorporating board games in the classroom lessons. What do board games provide to the students?
Board games will teach them reading, critical thinking, social and emotional skills, cooperation, problem solving, improve memory and cognitive skills... the list is endless. The board games requested are Splendor, Point Salad, and Just One. These particular games deal with strategy, math, and verbal and written skills. The neoprene mats are being requested to help with noise reduction of some of the dice games so they aren't distracting to the rest of the class or club, as well as benefiting students from a dexterity standpoint in being able to pick up cards and game pieces easier.
