This year, my first-graders will be sitting in desks positioned in rows three feet apart to allow for social distancing. Because of the social distancing requirements, students have very little room to move at their desks. Like last year, there will also be no gathering place for whole group lessons, read-alouds, or play; the students will be spending the majority of the school day at their desks.
Bouncy Bands provide an outlet for students to release energy, stimulate their muscles, and ease their anxiety through movement.
Last year, I had one Bouncy Band in my classroom and saw incredible improvement in focus and attentiveness for the student who used it. She was better able to participate throughout the school day, especially as we transitioned back to a full-day in-person schedule. My hope is that this year, all of my first-grade students will have the opportunity to benefit from the use of Bouncy Bands.
