These books will be used during independent reading time to help students with reading fluency and during literary circles to help students communicate over a shared love of a good book. Having students read a wide variety of texts and then discuss them with one another allows students to work on their summarization, literary analysis, and collaboration skills. Students will be able to learn about a new book from their friends and peers, becoming further interested in the next book they might want to pick up and dive into. Instead of just a teacher urging them to read, my kiddos will have their friends encouraging them to participate in self-selected learning.
