At FAS, what we lack in resources, we make up for in imagination and grit. Like so many other communities, Covid-19 has changed us. All of us, teachers, students, families and our community, have been transformed in some way. We have learned what we are made of and how much our connection to one another, especially our school family, supports us and provides structure.
"There's only one you in this great big world. Make it a better place." This quote from the book Only One You by Linda Kranz, is the inspiration for our project. Every student at Franklin Avenue School, remote and in-person, grades Kindergarten through fourth, will participate in this project which will take 3-4 session with the school counselor. We will read the book, use mindfulness and small group discussion to gain clarity on how we are each uniquely us, and paint a rock that will go into our school garden in a heart-shaped pattern to welcome students in years to come.
