Each week, I love to do interactive reading activities with students. Students learn best by having hands-on experiences. This project is called Books and Brushes because we will read a story together and then students will create a fun art project inspired by the story.
Art enhances learning. By donating to our project, it will provide students with context and critical thinking skills that will help them improve their ability to comprehend a text. The process of creating can be much more important than the product, and that process can be seen as a valid tool to understand students’ meaning-making. Expressions through art help all students to connect sensory images with multiple literacy skills and knowledge. Storyboarding is a terrific strategy for this, and can be used across subject matter. For example, students could create a series of images to reflect the plot of a story or the viewpoint of people during a certain time period.
