Students who are in the Driver's Education program are given knowledge from textbooks, videos, assignments, and projects to help them become safe drivers on the road. While students do acquire the needed knowledge to become safe drivers on the road, they do not always get a real-life picture of what their decisions/consequences could end up like.
This year the Driver's Education program has grasped a more hands-on approach to learning. We have implemented different lessons such as roadside emergencies (changing a tire, jumping a battery), DUI simulation goggles, surveying in the parking lots/streets, and small campaigns within the school.
This next unit, only doable with generous donations, would allow students to use backboards and EMT supplies to create campaigns and demonstrations for their peers. Not only would the students in the class receive the benefit of seeing what a bad choice on the road could end up as, but the entire campus.
