Working with students with a wide variety of communication support needs can be challenging at times when it comes to supplies. We have always made the best with what resources we have and are extremely grateful for them! However, after six years of serving this district I can confidently say my students would GREATLY benefit from having an interactive whiteboard system in our classroom. Having this resource would allow our class to project interactive activities, resources, and demonstrations. One challenge we currently have is demonstrating placement of where their tongue should be in order to correctly produce sounds. As you can imagine, demonstrating placement can be very tricky with lighting and students not being able to see all of the structures in the mouth at once. Adding in COVID-19 restrictions, this has become even more challenging. Being able to project demonstrations both of real people and of simulations for placement would be a tremendous help! Having an interactive whiteboard would also allow us to project and use interactive activities such as Boom Cards, which have never ending possibilities of what educational activities they could use. In addition, adding this innovative technology to our classroom would benefit students during times distant learning is required by allowing them to participate during sessions virtually while still being able to see/use the interactive system.
