Students need aquaponic systems, display materials, and headphones to explore the effects of inequitable access to nutritious foods in densely populated communities through a cross-curricular unit and individualized study project. Students will explore the possibility of aquaponics systems and vertical farming as potential solutions for equitable access to produce in areas without the resources for sustainable traditional agriculture. Students will also explore the effects of malnutrition on brain development. Students will also explore the utilization of the "whole animal" in across differing socioeconomic and cultural communities as part of the diet and how this practice produces varying diets. While students will research and explore all topics mentioned above, students will narrow in and engage in a culminating individual project on one of the topics above in order address an issue or concern of their choosing.
