To keep stay current, my district has created new classes entitled Culturally Relative Literature Courses. My students are enrolled in the Native American Perspective. My students will be utilizing literature circles in order to explore the world of Native American literature from different tribes in different times in history.
Allowing them to hear voices outside their own culture will help them grow as learners, but also help shape their voices. These chosen books will allow my students to explore perspectives they have not considered before. The themes within each of the chosen books are designed for discussion, analysis, reflection, and relation.
