Sensory equipment is a great way for pre-k students to learn calming techniques, self regulation, how to make good choices, time management, social skills, and self-awareness. Additionally, sensory equipment can help teachers provide individualized instruction to students based on their learning needs. In class, sensory equipment would allow students to take breaks as well as develop fine and gross motor skills.
I have noticed that my students are much more engaged and have greater success with academic achievement goals after they have been given sensory breaks. Students are happy and enjoy doing sensory equipment because they are able to take breaks while still staying engaged. Students love getting to use our sensory equipment to build their skills but also to help them practice being in control of their emotions.
The items that I have selected for my project will allow me to set up more sensory breaks in my classroom. The sensory equipment will provide my students with a place to practice self-regulation and fine and gross motor skills.
