Raised on a farm, I know farming as an essential life-skill. I want to instill that same passion in all my students and believe having hydroponics in my classroom is the solution! Having a farming system directly in the room will provide spontaneous and genuine learning moments since the farm will be within reach year-round.
Farming creates a connection to food, the planet, and other people. Hydroponic farming is an ideal way to bring plants into the classroom since the consistency of this method allows students to touch, build, maintain, and transfer key competencies in life science, environmental science, and sustainability, as well as engage in the kind of experiential-based social emotional learning that comes from seeing the magic of growing plants.
I am excited to use the hydroponic system as a resource for students as they experiment and discuss life cycles, water conservation, agritech, food insecurity, and so much more. My students will also be able to independently provide themselves a class snack. I plan to use our farm as an opportunity to learn about the future of farming all while enjoying the “fruits of our labor.”
Please help me support my students with hands-on hydroponics that will provide nourishment for student minds and bodies.
