Every year my district hosts a reading competition. This year the title is "Reading Olympics." Students from various elementary schools read the 12 selected books. This year the theme is 'RESILIENCE', and the books are from a variety of genre. After this last school year, resilience is a perfect topic. I'm sure we will have many relevant conversations as we discuss these books. I try to get as many students who are interested involved! To be able to have an effective club, I need multiple copies of the books. Many of my students do not attend our public libraries nor do they have the financial ability to purchase the books. This project will allow me to include many kids who love to read!! Throughout the school year, students will be participating in mini "Olympic challenges" related to the books they have read. At the end of the year, we form a team of students who go on to compete against other students. The kids absolutely love getting to meet fellow students who also have the love of reading. Seeing the excitement of my students during this event is truly always a highlight of my year!
