To be an effective teacher, it is crucial to understand and know our students. We need to plan assignments and lessons that are both engaging and successful. Movement breaks, hands-on activities and group discussions promote both social and educational growth and development. I teach at a Title I school and am privileged to teach an amazing group of actives learners in first grade. My students come from various backgrounds and lifestyles. Due to COVID-19, the layout of elementary classrooms has been drastically changed. The students are in individual desks and rows. With the absence of group and partner work, I have noticed how important it is for students to be able to work together and collaborate. I am hopeful that this will be an opportunity for future classrooms. This project will allow students to collaborate and work together on various hands-on and interactive assignments. I believe collaboration is extremely important in first grade, as well as all of their future endeavors.
