My students benefit from a multi-sensory approach to learning. Using their senses to make connections to their learning really leaves a lasting impact for them. Having these supplies will help them make more connections and enhance the way that they are able to interact with their learning. The play-doh and kinetic sand will help my students use their hands while they are learning. My students can use the colored pencils, dry erase spots, and dry erase markers to write in different colors and use sight while they are learning. Also, the sensory timers will help my over-stimulated students calm down quickly.
Over the course of this school year, I realized that we were lacking some flexible furniture pieces that would help enhance their learning. Last year, my students and I were given a new classroom, so we transitioned to the larger classroom from a smaller classroom. My students each have their preferred seating method and location, whether it be sitting at the table, standing so that they can move around a bit, or sitting on the floor. Now that we are in our larger classroom, the seating possibilities are endless! I would like to make their choices more comfortable for them. I have noticed a significant difference when my students are given an option of where to sit in the classroom. They are more motivated, more engaged, and less disruptive when they are given this choice.
The horseshoe table and stools will help me facilitate small group instruction, and the lap desks will help my students find a comfortable place to work anywhere in the classroom!
