Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. When my students are working on their classwork, either in small groups or independently, they prefer to choose the space in the room that works best for them. Currently, my students are choosing to stand and/or sit and work in various places around the room including under desks, standing at counters, and sitting on the floor around the room.
My students are noticeably more engaged and successful when they can choose where in the room they work and can "customize" space and fully meet their needs. The items that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices, while also being comfortable. The stability discs and bouncy band chair feet will allow students to get their wiggles out while sitting on a stool or in a traditional seat. While the comfy floor seats and the beanbag chairs will allow for comfortable floor seating options.
Choosing how and where students work positively affects their classroom success and increases their confidence in their ability to choose what is right for them.
