Through the end of last year, we had been using a ten-year-old laptop with 2GB RAM for student presentations and projects (including running PowerPoints, Prezis, Nearpods, and Kahoots, completing in-class research, uploading work and showing video clips).
This decade-old machine is now being removed from the classroom and not being replaced. Instead, we now must use the teacher computer for the class. The roll-taking, grade input and communication with parents and other stakeholders I must do during the class day, will prevent students from having the necessary access. Having only one computer will also prevent me from taking detailed electronic notes on student presentations and uploading them.
A second laptop will solve this problem. One that also functions as a tablet will transform our classroom and give us additional flexibility with the introduction of new possibilities such as editing student work and fillable rubrics.
