It is important for students to see their own lives reflected in literature. This can often be difficult for students like mine who come from households that don't necessarily fit the "norm".
This collection of books represents diverse characters, situations, and living arrangements. These stories will show students that they are not alone and it will give insight into other students' realities. Reading diverse stories allows students to feel seen and build empathy, making them better citizens as they grow into adulthood.
While these books will be great at building literacy and critical thinking skills, they will provide students with so much that goes beyond the text.
