In the 2021-2022 academic school year, the plan is to implement an ACT Preparatory course. The primary goal of this course is to help our students who are 2-3 points from meeting the state benchmarks increase those scores. By increasing their composite scores by just a few points, students will earn the guaranteed, lottery-funded HOPE scholarship. The secondary goal of this course is to assist these students with their postsecondary aspirations.
College admissions is about much more than a standardized test score. With these textbooks students will participate in Socratic discussion circles where they can dissect former high school students' college entrance essays, learn why they "worked" for gaining admission, and in the process develop a voice of their own. Additionally, with the book "College Admissions During COVID: How to Navigate the New Challenges in Admissions, Testing, Financial Aid and More (College Admissions Guides)," students will have the opportunity to learn from experts in the college admissions world, giving them the valuable resources they need to begin their own journey. Students will also spend time researching why various colleges/universities will or will not be a good "fit" for their own personal goals and future vocations. Ideally, students would be able to refine their post high school plans through focused guidance, enabling them to make informed, well-thought out choices.
