When you feel welcome and comfortable in a space, you can learn more. I want to create a warm space where the student has the flexibility to work on an individual floor table or we can play a game on the carpet altogether while sitting on our own chairs. Usually, I have 2 or 3 students working on speech and language at a time, so the set of four will allow everyone to have their own space and include everyone in the group.
These items will also allow me to work closer to my students and help them feel at home. It will give each student their own space, while not having a physical barrier of a table between us.
When you feel more comfortable, you talk more, which is the point of the students coming to see me. I want them to have space where making a mistake is seen as a good effort and another opportunity to try again. The first step is making them comfortable enough to talk.
