My first-grade students need to move their bodies! They are not designed to sit in a chair for hours without moving. I have been intentionally incorporating movement breaks into my classroom schedule. Doing this, I have seen increased attention during lessons and a decrease in disruptions within the classroom.
The racquetballs will be used as tools with students to increase focus, hand-eye coordination, and rhythmic skills. The sensory path will provide students a semi-independent place within the classroom to go to regulate their body.
The jump ropes and dance ribbons will be utilized again during whole group movement breaks to engage the class in community movement activities.
