These books will allow my students to learn about their own culture and language, as well as those of others. Allowing my ESL students the opportunity to read books in their own language will also support their English language learning.
Many of our students do not enjoy reading. By providing books in their native language, my students will be more inclined to read more. By having a library of multilingual books, students will be allowed to read both in the classroom as well as at home. As you can see, based on my list of books selected, the topics range from stories they may have heard of in English, such as "Fault in our Stars", as well as books about the lives of refugees.
These books will also show them that they are not alone in their journey as an immigrant. I want my students to feel respected and important and these books are one small step in that direction.
