The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students will be essential in helping my students to close academic gaps in math. Many of my students immigrated from another country roughly 2 years ago and did not receive formal education consistently. Although I love our school district math books they present a multitude of challenges for my English Language Learner students. My students love to learn, but having the right materials to meet them where they are without interfering with their confidence is key.
The materials needed will provide a fun and engaging way to teach my students 4th grade math content that is both meaningful and academically productive. The materials I chose were Math in a Flash and Math Folder Game that I will use during small group. I have a small kidney table where I reteach the math lesson to a small group of 6-7. During this time I will chose the appropriate game that corresponds to the math standard to reinforce the skill. After a quick reteach students will engage in the learning game that presents the information in a more digestible way. Students gain more confidence playing the game while also learning collaboratively. Differentiation (presenting the material in multiple ways) in learning is critical to academic success. I am a first year teacher that bought all of my classroom supplies out of pocket, however, there is so much more that my students need. I want to give my students every chance to succeed and overcome their obstacles, I know with the help of these materials the sky is the limit! I would really appreciate your support.
