The students in Ms. Cook's music class are eager to get their hands on an instrument and start playing independently as well as in a group. Having an entire class set of ukuleles allows all students to practice during class, optimizing our short time together as much as possible. We begin learning the ukulele as a group, but I would like to be able to give them all independent time to explore and learn on their own. My students are highly creative and innovative, and having a ukulele for everyone would allow more time for exploration during class.
I want every student engaged in the classroom, and giving them an accessible instrument that they can continue playing after they move onto middle school is a great way to keep them engaged! Authentic music making is a pillar in my room, so having accessible instruments is a key part of that process.
