In a special education classroom, station work is an effective way to keep students learning independently while other students are working with the teacher. To enhance and encourage independent learning, I would like to create a reading space for my students that they WANT to be in with these curtains, futon, bean bag chair, rug, and other supplies.
All students deserve to learn in an environment they can be proud of and comfortable in, especially students who sometimes need a little bit more love in their day-to-day school life. Not only will this space be used for reading, but it can also be used for alternative seating, a safe place to cool down when students are upset or just need a minute to themselves.
