As a special education provider, many students have difficulty expressing themself at times it comes out as being aggressive. Having a room to teach them how to identify each emotion will help them learn different coping skills. In the classroom setting and home, students will be able to stay on task and transition easier. Learning about different emotions using flashcards and games is a fun way to teach this goal. Many of my students are on the autism spectrum and the main focus is lack of social skills and transitioning. Having these resources will help them in how to act in different social situations from school and home. Visual boards and timers help with transition. Transition strategies are techniques used to support individuals with ASD during changes in or disruptions to activities, settings, or routines.
This project will help build up social skills and with practice can help enhance participation in the community and support outcomes like happiness and friendships.
Having flexible seating and an area to use when they need a break helps with the reward system. All these materials will help my student in a positive way. Having a fun way of teaching and learning different emotions is something they will need every day in life.
