Books open the door for endless opportunities. Whether a student is struggling emotionally or just looking to learn a little more about a subject, books are a great place to start. The books that I have chosen will cover science and social studies (the two subjects I teach) as well as social/emotional topics.
The science and social studies books will be used as supplemental resources to our school-based curriculum. This will allow students to dive deeper into topics that interest them or find an area of interest by browsing our classroom library. I will be reading many of the books to the students to create classroom discussions that will help expand prior knowledge.
The social/emotional themed books are my FAVORITE way of covering tough topics that can be hard for young children to understand. The books I have chosen cover topic areas such as self-esteem, inclusion, relationships, diversity, etc. All of these topics are highly important for students to learn about because at the end of the day if a student is struggling socially or emotionally it is going to be next to impossible to retain vital content based information.
