My lifetime fitness class was designed to get Junior High students moving towards a healthy lifestyle. During my class, students explore all different types of fitness activities from the 5 Components of Fitness, Jogging/Aerobic Exercise, Body Weight training, Weight Lifting, and Flexibility by incorporating Yoga. Overall goals of the program are for students to develop an appreciation for the benefits of exercise through multiple options, make the connection between mental health and physical activity, gain an understanding of how nutrition can affect their physical health, and hopefully give them the tools to guide them to living a healthy life.
By giving my students heavier body bar and stronger mini band options, I will be able to reach and challenge more students that can lift heavier weights as well as be challenged by more resistance. Currently I have 5 lb and 10 lb body bar options for my students to choose from and for many of the adolescent boys I have and some of the girls, these weight options are not challenging enough so they get bored. By giving them an option to choose heavier, they can also challenge themselves to get stronger. My class fits as a great introduction to the Bigger Faster Stronger programs at many of the high schools and gives the students the basic tools they need for weight lifting in the future.
