All of the students work hard daily to improve their reading skills, despite their learning deficiency. Students read daily to improve comprehension and fluency skills. For instance, I will incorporate the use of the Northstar punch cards to inspire students to reach the identified reading goals in their individual learning paths. Each time a student achieves a milestone, they will receive a punch on their card. Once the card is completely punched out, they will be allowed to select another incentive (Twizzlers, Laffy Taffy, etc) as a tangible reward.
Students receive certificates quarterly for their success. At the end of each grading period, I host an award's day in my classroom to recognize student successes for that period. Each student receives a certificate for their efforts in reading achievement.
