These books will be added to our classroom library. Our school does not have a school-wide library so having updated, relevant, and diverse texts within the reach of students is vital to fostering literacy. Middle students can be very reluctant readers, but one of my favorite parts of my job is helping students find a book that they engage and connect with. These particular books were chosen with my students in mind. Elizabeth Acevedo's book Clap When You Land not only introduces students to a new genre of a novel through verse, but for some, introduces them to mirrors of their own experiences.
