My students belong to two Moderate -Severe Handicap Special Day Classrooms in Oakland High School. They love coming to school and interacting with the many people they meet in their day. Most of my students have Complex Communication Needs secondary to developmental disorders. They use alternate forms of communication such as iPads, sign language/gestures, picture books etc to interact with people. My students are very social and enthusiastic learners. They love music, cooking, writing letters and notes of appreciation, exploring the world through the internet, and learning new concepts. Their primary goal in all their classes is to be able to learn to be confident and efficient communicators allowing them to communicate across environments with numerous communication partners.
