Physical Education has evolved into much more than dodgeball, basketball, and hockey. The new aged wave of Physical Education class incorporates the learning and development of personal health and fitness. In my physical education classes I make sure to foster an environment that teaches students to develop skills to achieve lifetime fitness. Lifetime fitness can be anything from learning a life long sport, like golf, or learning how to properly exercise for weight/ health management. My middle school students love to exercise too, but many of them become confused once I start taking about specific heart rate zones for performance during exercise.
According to the CDC, 1 out of every 36 individuals dies from a heart related condition each year. With the help of your donation, I will be able to provide to my class the experience of using digital heart rate monitors to help them understand the different heart rate zones that their heart goes through during exercise. My students will not only love the physical aspect of exercising in the max heart rate zone, but also the scientific aspect of learning through application about the human body.
