I am the school social worker at Milwaukee French Immersion School (MFIS), a public school within the district of Milwaukee Public Schools. These books will be utilized primarily by the school social worker and school psychologist but will be lent out as needed to all school staff.
The goal of creating this library is to increase student's social emotional awareness toolkit. Due to COVID-19 and a year of virtual learning, increased poverty, health risk, and racial and community violence, students are in need of stories that assist to teach them about their emotions and how to express these emotions in healthy ways. These books were also selected as they highlight the diversity of students and families-education necessary at a school as diverse as MFIS.
