Now that we will be fully back to school my intervention groups will be larger than when we were working in the cohort model. Our old hand-me-down furniture had termites, water damage, bumpy surfaces for writing, and would be cramped with the larger groups I am expecting this school year. This furniture allows students to move between group and individual stations during reading intervention lessons and assessments. The horseshoe table will allow students to be seated a safe distance from one another while still feeling part of a learning team sitting at one table. I will be able to maintain the recommended distance from students during instruction while still being able to easily move closer to provide the prompting, reinforcement, and error correction necessary to support students' reading growth. Some students slump forward or backward in a traditional chair and lose the focus necessary to coordinate between eyes, brain, mouth, and tracking finger when reading, which impacts decoding, fluency, and comprehension. The flexible seating options will encourage the proper posture for optimal breathing and focus.
