The Pay to Learn Act has shown a bright light on the proven research that children in early childhood education learn best through meaningful, social, hands on experiences. As I have seen first hand, 5-6 year old children are not at their best when being talked "at" for 7-8 hours a day! They do their best when they are given the opportunity to try it for themselves!
My goal this year and for the years to come is have learning centers for each content area. I have found many printable resources and I have acquired tools for Math, Reading, Writing, Science, and Social Studies. Each box will contain the papers, markers, erasers, manipulatives, and any other tools needed for that particular center. Students will have the opportunity to pick a new center each day for each of the content areas.
This ability learn through play and the ability to choose, lays a foundation for engagement. I will not just be talking "at" my students. I will have the ability to walk around and challenge thinking, work with small groups, help those who need a bit more support, and push those who can far exceed expectation! This year is the start of something magical and I cannot wait!
