Imagine a classroom built upon the foundation of authentic, firsthand learning. Imagine a classroom where learning was integrated with action and reflection; a classroom where students were given meaningful learning tasks aligned with real-world application of knowledge. Imagine a classroom that sets students up for success by equipping them with not only the academic building blocks but also the social and emotional skill sets needed to be productive citizens in a diverse world.
As you walk through the classroom there is a constant buzz, a secret language of words being shared amongst the inhabitants of the class. Words create power, meaning, and relevance to understanding. Words have a purpose. Students are teachers alike are sharing the power of words and conversation.
In this classroom, you will see the class reading highly engaging, quality literature together.
With this project, my students and I will have a class set of a book that we will not only learn and grow together with but will learn all about the rituals and routines of book club. Throughout the classroom, there is a culture that provides a sense of teamwork, rigor, and cultural appreciation. As you walk through the class the walls are filled with words and color. On the walls, there is much to read and learn from. When you walk in, you bear witness to students involved in daily rich and meaningful experiences. Excitement about words runs rampant. That's my classroom!
